PITTSBURGH 250
2008 Reunion Will Help Celebrate the Steel City's 250th Birthday
Fri.-Sun., June 27-29, 2008. Come to Pittsburgh for this Once in a Lifetime Family Gathering of Long-Lost Cousins -- "Imagine What You Can Do Here"
Jacob Minerd Gravestone Dedication – The federal government has finally recognized our pioneer ancestor Jacob Minerd Sr. – the father of us all – as a veteran of the American Revolution. At no cost to us, the government has prepared, etched and shipped a beautiful granite grave marker. We intend to dedicate the marker at our reunion next summer in the cemetery where until now, Jacob has lain in an unmarked grave. For more details, see the home page of our website at www.minerd.com
Florida Newspaper Praises Website – This month, the St. Petersburg Times newspaper in Florida featured our site in “Family Web Sites Help You Find the Past in Cyberspace.” The article highlighted our site as a model for others to follow. You can read the full article at: www.sptimes.com/2002/11/14/Floridian/Family_Web_sites_help.shtml
Reunion Committee “Adopts” Two Monuments at Gettysburg – As part of our ongoing commitment to honoring Civil War cousin-soldiers, our reunion committee has voted to "Adopt-A-Position" at Gettysburg National Military Park. Specifically, we have signed a contract to adopt two separate monuments marking the battle-positions of the 107th PA Infantry, which lost 165 killed and wounded during the bloody fighting. One of our cousins served in this regiment during the war. More info is on our homepage.
