Your First Visit to the Chiropractor
Dr. Greg Molis has been a Salt Lake Chiropractor
for 24 years. He can help you with your back pain, neck pain, headaches, etc. You don't have to accept the pain any longer.
Chiropractor is usually amongst the last resort medicine
man to be visited when all other forms of treatment have
failed. The first time visitors are surprised to find the
treatment to be far less painful when compared to all that
they have already gone through. This is when they realize
that a chiropractor addresses the body as a whole and not
the spinal cord alone.
Initially in chiropractic treatment the chiropractor takes
down your whole case history before starting your
treatment. He will want to know all about your illness and
how you are troubled with it to decide the course of
treatment that he should follow. He will also require you
to fill out forms and questionnaire about your illness. As
a result your first visit or visits may go in providing him
with this information. He can ask you questions such as
When did your pain start?
Where is the pain centered?
Any specific activities or motions that make the pain worse
or better?
Is it the result of an injury? Etc.
The doctor will then proceed to do a thorough examination,
not the kind you would receive from your regular health
care professional though. The chiropractic assessment may
include blood pressure, pulse and temperature readings, but
also include neurological and orthopedic examinations of
the spine and neck and of the part of the body where you
have pain. These include tests on the range of motion of
the affected part and the muscle tone and strength. Further
chiropractic tests may be necessary to arrive at the
assessment or diagnosis of the affected area.
Having analyzed the ailment, the chiropractor will assess
if the condition will respond to chiropractic care. The
condition, the treatment plan, the frequency and the
expected time duration shall all be explained to you. The
frequency of visits varies and depends upon your condition,
the amount of pain you are in and the extent your routine
activities are affected. The frequency varies from 2 or 3
times per week over a period of weeks or even months to
even daily in some cases. The chiropractor aims to enable
you to undertake your regular routine by stabilizing the
problem and lessening the pain.
Having explained the treatment, the chiropractor will
proceed with the first sitting. The treatment given is
normally an 'adjustment' or manipulation of the vertebrae
that may either have abnormal movements or no movement at
all. This adjustment is undertaken with hands and sometimes
with the help of a small device to apply pressure to any
areas of the spine that are out of alignment. Usually, this
is a painless process to an extent that it may just cause a
little discomfort for a few seconds.
An X-ray assists the doctor in his analysis and in case you
already have x-rays then it is a good idea to take them
with you. Alternately, the chiropractor may want to take
an X-ray or have an MRI to establish the ailment correctly
and decide on the treatment.
Also make sure that you check out whether your chiropractic
treatment is covered by your insurance company or not.
Usually insurance companies do cover chiropractic treatment
but still it always better to be sure.
Many who go to a chiropractor once get such relief, that
for future problems they go to the chiropractor first.
