Today's Top Five Headlines on BuzzFlash.com:
This is a guide for both students and parents. It will help answer the question "what should I be when I grow up?" I believe that most of us did not know our options while going to school nor did we realize how valuable education really is. My guide will help parents guide their children and also help students see their options. After all, Education = Life-Style. Period. Your comments are always welcome! E-mail: Aimee L. Walker
So. What are you going to be when you "grow up"?
Everyone asked me that question when I was in Junior and High School. It is asked of one while one is even in college. The truth is education equals life-style. You can make your choices while you are getting your education. This guide does not imply that you need to make a lot of money to have a nice life-style. It just means that it would be nice to be able to make choices.
Education
It is very important that you receive that piece of paper which lets everyone know that you worked hard to get through college. It is even more important that you try to go to the best college. It is also important that you know the right people and belong to the right groups and clubs.

Remember: Education - Employment = Life-Style!
"Employment Opportunities"
There are many types of employment. You can work 8 hours a day for minimum wage OR you can work 8 hours a day for a large salary! You can be a very good "worker" and still not make the necessary money needed to have a nice life-style.

The more money you earn the more perks you will receive. You will have health insurance, life insurance, perhaps retirement and a company car. Also you will not have to punch in at a time clock. You will be able to come and go without having to ask for permission. It is your choice. With a college degree you can select your life-style! Education determines your life-style.
Saving for Your Future
From MATH POWER
By Robert Stanton
If you set aside roughly $19 a week (that's $1,000 a year) from age 25 to 34 in a retirement account with an 8% interest rate annually, and then didn't put any more in ever again, by the time you hit the ripe old age of 65, your $10,000 investment will have grown to almost $170,000! But if you don't start until you're 35, and then invest the same amount per year, for 30 years-- that's a total of $30,000--you'll have only $125,000 at age 65. So if you want to retire in style, you have to start thinking of your money exponentially.

Homes
Where would you like to live? What price-range home do you want to live in? Where do you want to live? West Coast? East Coast? Mid-west? West Coast? East Coast? Mid West? Do you prefer living near the coast? Do you prefer to live in a city? Do you prefer small towns? Do you prefer to live away from the coast? Do you want some land around your home? What kind of neighbors do you want living near you? Do you want to be able to live in a safe neighborhood? With a college degree and a good job you can make any choice you wish.
Hotels - Resorts
Do you want to be able to stay in a nice hotel? With a college degree and a good job you can stay in nice hotels and resorts. Otherwise you will be staying in the less expensive motels. It depends on your life-style. Data Options Travel Links
Restaurants - Dining
We all like to eat out. There are many types of restaurants. There are elegant restaurants with many servers to wait on you. There are restaurants with great views and expensive menus. There are restaurants with a full bar. Do you prefer elegant or casual dining? With cash or a credit card there is a choice.
Autos
What kind of car do you see yourself driving? A "SUV", sports car, sedan, "RV", Ford, Mercedes, BMW? We all know that the prices of automobiles are from low to very high. Car insurance is another issue. It will cost you to insure your car. The more expensive the car the more it will cost. Another choice you can make if you have a college degree and a good job.
Boats - Yachts
Of course you can purchase a boat to use in your leisure time and on vacations. There are many types of boats. Again, you can make this choice if you get through college and have a good job.
Planes
Of course you can purchase an airplane to use in your leisure time and on vacations. There are many types of airplanes. Again, you can make this choice if you get through college and have a good job.
Jewelry
We all like to buy jewelry. What kind of jewelry do you like? Where do you do your shopping? It is your choice.

Do you like to be in a resort? A luxury hotel? A Bed and Breakfast? A cruise ship? A campground? A motel? It is your choice. Data Options Travel Links: Vacations
Office - Your Office at Work
What kind of office you visualize yourself in? If you do not have a college degree, you most likely will not have an office. Wouldn't it be nice to have an office of your own? Would you like a corner office with a view, very nice furniture? A good education will give you these options.
Furniture
What kind of furniture do you like? There is a wide variety of furniture styles. Inexpensive and very expensive. It is your choice. I believe that places like Pier One has very nice inexpensive furniture and accessories that look very nice. If you have a college degree and a good job you

Family - Children
It certainly requires a college degree and a good job in order to give your family a nice life-style. It will cost you a bundle to raise your children and put them through college. Having a family is a big responsibility. Do you want your wife to be able to be a "Soccer Mom"? I believe that having a family should happen after you are able to provide a good home for your family. It is your choice.
Health Insurance
It is very nice to have health and dental insurance. To have be able to visit the same doctor when you need him/her is a real perk. Not all employers offer health insurance. It is your choice.
I have worked with people who had children and those who did not. Those with small children had to find day-care facilities to care for the children while they were at work. Very expensive. Some larger corporations do offer on-site child-care. Those who did have children and a good job were able to afford good day-care facilities or to have live-in Nannies to care for their children. Those who did not have children were able to fly to Cabos san Lucas for the weekend or to Banff to go skiing. Choices.
House Cleaning Service
It is very nice to be able to have someone come in and do the house cleaning once a week or once a month. You will be able to afford this service is you have a good paying job. You can even have your laundry done! How about someone to come in and do your cooking for you? That is if you do not enjoy cooking. So many choices. It is your choice.

Would you like to be able to go to a gym on a regular basis? Would you like to have a manicure and a hair cut on a regular basis? Would you like to go to a spa? Possible if you have the money.

Social Security - Your Mandatory Savings Account
Think of the Social Security deduction which comes out of your checks as a government mandatory savings account. It is a good idea to save all of your tax returns. They are your receipts for your "savings account." Remember Socical Security deductions are taken from your paychecks. That money is yours and is supposed to be kept safe for you in your old age.
You will be glad your Social Security funds are there when you are 62-65 years old. When you receive your letter from the Social Security Department telling you how much you earned since your first job you will have something to back it up with. And you will be old one day. Prepare for your future.
A very important book to read on this subject:
Social Security Under the Gun
by Arthur Benavie
What every informed citizen needs to know about pension reform.
(i.e., what our government is proposing is to change the Social Security system. Remember, the money taken out of your paycheck is your savings account. I am so glad the government took money out of my paychecks. Of course I wasn't too happy at the time! Now I can look forward to receiving a nice check each month.)
